Sail Commons is run by Christopher Ross, through thisismyurl.com. Reading it means agreeing to the plain version of the usual things, laid out below rather than buried in a document nobody reads.

What this is, and isn't

Sail Commons is a monthly digest of sailing and marina news, written and curated by one person, and a growing library of teaching material about how to sail. It's not a certified training program, not marine safety guidance, and not a substitute for instruction from a qualified instructor or the judgment of the person actually at the helm. Every fact is checked against named sources, listed on each article, but this is journalism and teaching material, not professional advice, and it shouldn't be the only thing you rely on for a safety-critical decision on the water.

The content, and who owns it

Everything on this site is written by Christopher Ross unless a byline says otherwise. The eventual goal is an open licence for the teaching material this site is meant to hold, so it can be freely translated, adapted, and reused, but that licence hasn't been chosen yet. Until it is, ordinary copyright applies: don't republish full articles elsewhere without asking first. A quote with a link back is always fine.

Sponsorships

Right now, every "Sponsored" card on this site promotes a business I own, thisismyurl.com or one of its city-specific sites like Kingston SEO. No money changes hands between me and myself. I'm labelling them "Sponsored" anyway because that's the honest name for a promotional space inside editorial content, and I'd rather set that label now than introduce it later once a real third-party sponsor is involved. If and when an actual paying sponsor appears, this page will say so plainly, and the same rule will apply: a sponsorship pays for space, not coverage, and never buys editorial control.

This site links to news sources, sponsors, and resources it doesn't run. A link isn't a guarantee of what you'll find there, and Sail Commons isn't responsible for another site's content, accuracy, or availability.

No warranty

This site is provided as-is. Every reasonable effort goes into getting facts right, including an independent check against source material before anything publishes, but mistakes are still possible, and corrections are welcome. If something's wrong, the fastest way to fix it is to write to [email protected], not to assume it's deliberate.
