NMMA: new US powerboat sales fell 7.1% in the year to April 2026; used boats are about 80% of sales
Why this matters: our read
A one-year drop in new powerboat sales says little about sailing, since NMMA's summary reports no sailboat count, and it does not say how the used-boat share splits by type.
New US powerboat retail unit sales fell 7.1 percent to 214,292 in the 12 months from May 2025 to April 2026, according to a July 10 summary from the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), the boat makers’ trade group. As of November 1, 2026 it is the latest summary we found. It reports no sailboat count and no prices. New freshwater fishing boats rose 0.4 percent.
In its January 8 outlook, NMMA says used boats are about 80 percent of boats sold each year, with nearly 860,000 sold in 2024, down 6.5 percent from 2023. NMMA does not break that total down by boat type, so these sources cannot show whether used sailboat prices are moving.
