Sail Canada named 12 to the 2026 Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame; Halifax ceremony was set for Oct. 4
Why this matters: our read
This year's class is settled; how future classes get picked is not, since the notice commits only to an intention to open nominations.
Sail Canada announced on April 23, 2026 that 12 people would join the Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame’s class of 2026. A later Sail Canada notice, dated July 16, 2026, scheduled the induction ceremony for Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 1pm to 4pm at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax, NS. Tickets were $35 (the notice gives no currency), and seating was limited to 125 people, with priority for family and friends of the inductees. We found no report of the ceremony itself.
Sail Canada lists Angus Walters of Lunenburg, NS, as the man who skippered the Bluenose schooner between 1921 and 1938, and as a five-time winner of the International Fishermen’s Trophy. It lists Fredrick Walker “Casey” Baldwin of Baddeck, NS, as Canada’s first aviator and a founding member of the Cruising Club of America.
The organization adds that four of the 12 were chosen automatically under its medal and world championship criteria, and that seven have East Coast roots. It says a management committee chose this class and that opening nominations to the sailing public is intended.
