Sail Canada names Guylain Noël of Lévis, Quebec its Instructor of the Year
Why this matters: our read
The release is Sail Canada praising its own award winner and names no selection process or other nominees, so it shows what he does, not how he compared.
Sail Canada announced on September 15, 2026, during National Coaches Week, that Guylain Noël of Lévis, Quebec is its Instructor of the Year, presented by Checklick, a sponsor named in the release. Sail Canada’s release labels it the 2025 award, and Scuttlebutt Sailing News carried it on September 16. It says the award recognizes teaching skill, fairness and communication.
Sail Canada’s announcement says Noël has taught sailing for more than 35 years, holds its advanced instructor certification and a Transport Canada Captain’s Certificate, and is Director of Training at Formation Nautique Québec, a sailing school in Quebec, where he oversees roughly 40 instructors. It lists his work separately: a monthly continuing-education program for instructors, an Offshore Racing Program at Formation Nautique Québec, coaching the FEMINA Océan Challenge team in 2024, and serving as safety officer and race-committee coordinator for the Femina Cup.
