US Sailing's 2026 Youth National Team: 61 sailors in six classes, up to 16 for Youth Worlds

Why this matters: our read

The announcement counts the sailors on the team, not who will be picked for the Youth Worlds team, and the roster it describes predates the summer qualifiers.

In an April 2026 announcement, US Sailing listed its 2026 Youth National Team: 61 sailors aged 19 and under who had qualified, in six classes, meaning boat types that race against each other. They are the 29er and i420, two-person youth dinghies; the Nacra 15, a two-person catamaran; the ILCA 6, a one-person dinghy; and the iQFOiL windsurfer and Formula Kite, both sailed on foils, hydrofoil wings under the board that lift it out of the water. The announcement said the Formula Kite qualifiers (July 13 to 16) and iQFOiL qualifiers (July 25 to 27) were still to come. Those dates have passed, and we have not seen an updated roster.

US Sailing describes the team as part of the pathway from youth sailing to Olympic development and the US Sailing Team, with training camps, coaching and performance support. It says up to 16 of the sailors can qualify for the team that goes to the Youth Sailing World Championships, called Youth Worlds, in Vilamoura, Portugal, December 11 to 19, 2026. Australian Sailing, naming its own team, gives the same dates.
